New Zealand bounced back with a
vengeance against England, and they lead the current one day series 2-0 as
we approach the next game on Friday. As we pointed out last week, the form
from twenty/20 matches can quite often be misleading as it is an entirely
different ball game, and while England won both twenty/20 matches, they
have been outclassed in the two 50 over games. The Poms were favourites in
both, and while we did get plenty of money for them in game one (including
one bet of $6000 at 1.65), they were hard to sell in the second. Game
three has both sides quoted at 1.90, and it has proven quite busy with a
couple of English clients each weighing in early with 1000 pounds to say
that their side can win, while an Aussie cricket follower was also in
early with a bet of $4500 for the Kiwi's. On their current form, we can't
see any reason why they won't win again.
Australia will also be in action on
Friday when they face Sri Lanka in Perth. The Sri Lankans found form with
an easy win against India in a rain interrupted match on Tuesday, and
while that win will do wonders for their confidence, a very tricky WACA
wicket awaits! The Aussie pace attack will be right at home in Perth, so
that is why Sri Lanka are the price that they are (3.80). There has been
some doubts cast over the form of Australia, and more so Ricky Ponting,
but Perth is one of the tracks where Ponting has always been able to score
runs. It has been amazing that each time we put up an Aussie high bat,
punters continue to back Ponting, so much so that he has been our worst
result in each of their matches. Perhaps they are working on the law of
averages, and that he is due for a 'big one'?
