UNiTAB Limited, part of the Tatts group
of companies, now offers its own non-aligned fixed price race, sport and
entertainment service known as ‘TattsBet’.
11th February 2010
AFL
The Brisbane Lions were initially posted $26 when TattsBet released it’s
first 2010 Flag market the week after the 2009 AFL Grand Final. Fast
forward to the eve of the pre-season and the Lions have attracted more
than 30% of all Flag bets and as a consequence are down to the 6th
line of betting at $11 and threatening to start the season proper shorter
should they perform well in the NAB Cup and line up for round 1 of the
season fit and healthy. Biggest bet written against the Lions this week
has been $4,000 at $13 while the biggest NAB Cup bet this week has been
$1,500 on West Coast at $17.
NRL/AFL
Early futures punters have had a little dip at the Wests Tigers/Western
Bulldogs premiership double at $90 to win $200k.
SUPER 14
The Reds may be given little hope of improving on near bottom of the table
performances over the past few years by many rugby fans but TattsBet has
recorded more bets on the Reds than any other Super 14 franchise to win
the 2010 Championship forcing their price from $81 down to $61. For week
one the Reds have been afforded 4.5 start on the line for their home game
against arch rivals the NSW Waratahs.
In other Super 14 news $3.75 championship favourites the Crusaders are the
shortest price favourites for week one at $1.19 with their opponents the
Otago Highlanders the chunkiest priced team at $4.40.
CRICKET
Australia
has won just about everything they’ve contested this summer, including the
coin toss, bar for the Sydney to Hobart yacht race. For one TattsBet
customer however the Aussie’s turn of luck saw his $3,500 bet on the first
ODI toss of the coin at $1.90 go west when the coin finished up the wrong
way.
THE GAMES
The 2010 Games
in Vancouver start this weekend and with more than 5,500 athletes
participating across 86 events in 15 different sports it is impossible not
to be interested. Betting adds that extra dimension to watching the Games
and lots of sports fans will be looking to place bets on this great
spectacle, and TattsBet is your one stop betting shop for the Games.
One of the
most anticipated events is Men’s Ice Hockey. As the games are held on
Canadian soil there is sure to be a ton of excitement around hockey,
Canada’s number one favorite pastime. This may be the last time we see
great NHL players like Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby competing for
Gold. The National Hockey League (NHL) is currently debating whether or
not to allow their players to compete in future Games.

AUSTRALIAN TENNIS OPEN
TattsBet punters couldn’t get enough of Roger Federer even before he’d
progressed to the final. His final price dropped from $1.72 to $1.65 after
Andy Murray progressed to the final in the other half of the draw before
beating Tsonga in Semi. After his semi win Federer was backed down from
$1.65 to $1.42 and Murray got to $2.75 with minimal takers. More than
$200k in bets were placed on Federer across various options just in the
Final head to head book. Overall betting interest on this year’s Open of
$3.2M was similar to last year. No massive bets among the $3.2M wagered
with the biggest single winning bet recorded on Federer $10,000 at $3.50.
In spite of both popular pre-tournament favourites winning TattsBet
managed to finish just in front of punters this time round.
AMERICAN FOOTBALL – SUPERBOWL XLIV
There are more than fifty (50) different betting options available on this
year’s Super Bowl at TattsBet. Head to head money is running 2:1 in favour
of the $1.46 favourites the Indianapolis Colts who started the season as
$13 chances. Their Super Bowl opponents the New Orleans Saints are $2.65
down from a season high price of $26.
Colt’s quarterback Peyton Manning is $2.00 favourite to win MVP and its
$1.95 a piece for the toss of the coin.
This year’s Super Bowl is expected to be a high scoring affair with the
pre-game total match score of 56.5 the highest ever afforded by TattsBet
in its ten year sports betting history. Previously, the highest total
offered was 55.5 points. While the Colts and Saints are mad offensive
teams it may pay to consider the humidity in South Florida even in Winter
as the footballs used for the Super Bowl carry way more artwork than those
used for the rest of season which could make handing more difficult.
AFL FLAG
Early TattsBet punters believe Collingwood can finally convert a good home
and away season into a title this year. The travel shy Pies have attracted
more than $3,000 in recent Flag bets enough for TattsBet price assessors
to reassess their 2010 Flag price down from $15 to $13. Meanwhile the
Brisbane Lions price remains unchanged, coincidentally on the same line of
Flag betting as the Pies, at $13 down from a pre-draft high of $26 in
spite of AFL legend Kevin Sheedy’s advice in Wednesday’s Courier Mail for
punters to get on the Lions now!
SUPER 14
There’s just over a week to the start of the Super 14 season and the Lions
have been posted $2.80 favourites for the Wooden Spoon. Another South
African team, the Cheetahs follow at $4.00 with expectations of a finish
higher than previous seasons for the Queensland Reds highly unlikely and
consequently their $4.50 price.

TENNIS -
AUSTRALIAN OPEN
Lleyton Hewitt’s 3rd round 1st set routing of Marcos
Baghdatis 6-0 wasn’t a total shock to a couple of TattsBet punters. Both
won a cool $6,000 after placing $50 on Hewitt to win the 1st
set 6-0 at $121. In futures news more than $10,000 in Championship Double
bets on the Federer/S Williams at the juicy odds of $7 remain in play
after both top seeds moved through to the final four of the Open. In other
Open betting news of note:
-
Rafael Nadal’s quarter final retirement to Andy Murray was timely for
match punters but not for TattsBet with heaps of certain losing match
bets on Rafa refunded when the world no. 2 pulled the plug when within
sight of elimination; &
-
In play punters who jumped aboard Victoria Azarenka during her quarter
final match against Serena Williams when leading a set and 4-0 at $1.05
would be licking their wounds after the Belarussian choked in 3 sets.
Pre-game price highs were Williams $1.30 and Azarenka $4.20. Serena got
to $9.30 when Azarenka’s price dropped to $1.05.
AFL - NAB CUP
One in every three early AFL pre-season competition bets on the NAB Cup to
date has been for Adelaide at $8.00. An interesting sidelight this year is
Sydney, who historically has been easy beats at this time of the year,
declaring their hand saying they will be taking a full strength squad into
their first match. As a consequence the Swans are $15.00 to win the NAB
Cup compared to previous pre-seasons when their price was infinitely
longer.

RUGBY - SUPER
14
The Super 14 Championship kicks
off a fortnight tomorrow and the Queensland Reds appear set for yet
another season anchored to the bottom of the Super 14 ladder if latest
TattsBet’s markets are any guide. The Red’s past four Super 14 campaigns
have returned bottom four placings of 12th, 14th, 12th
and 13th and with their back line gutted by the loss of key
playmaker Berrick Barnes to arch rivals the New South Wales the Reds
chances of winning the Championship ($61), finishing Top 4 ($11) or
finishing top Australian team ($17) appear remote at best.

CRICKET HEADS OR TAILS?
The
Victorian Bushrangers have made it to the final of the increasingly
popular Twenty/20 Big Bash against South Australia at Adelaide Oval in
spite of not winning a toss in 6 competition attempts to date. With
regular captain Cameron White required for Australian one day duty and
Murphy’s Law suggesting they’re overdue for a change of luck on Saturday
night punters might like to consider taking a piece of the $1.90 on offer
about the Bushrangers cracking it for their maiden Twenty/20 coin toss win
with TattsBet.
AUSTRALIAN
TENNIS OPEN
Despite an
unconvincing 1st round win World no. 1 Roger Federer remains clear cut
TattsBet favourite for the Australian Open. Almost 50% of TattsBet’s Men’s
Championship bets, including $10,000 at $3.40 and $6,000 at $3.50, have
been for Federer necessitating a price change from $3.50 to $3.25 in the
last 48 hours. To put Federer’s popularity into perspective, Rafal Nadal
is the next most popular player with 10% of bets. 2009 U.S. Open champion
Juan Del Potro has also attracted a little interest including one bet of
$2,000 at $8.00. Meanwhile in the women's section favouritism continues to
fluctuate between Serena Williams and Kim Clijsters with Justine Henin
closing to less than one dollar behind on the third line of betting.
MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL
Major League
Baseball consists of 30 teams who play a minimum 162 games per season.
Baseball offers punters heaps of opportunities during the course of a
season. Not surprisingly reigning World Series champions the New York
Yankees have been posted $4.00 favourites by TattsBet for the 2010 season.

NY Yankees $4.00
Boston Red Sox $7.00

A LEAGUE SOCCER
A Brisbane loss to North
Queensland at Dairy Farmers Stadium this weekend will almost hand the Roar
second favouritism for the Wooden Spoon when prices are reassessed by
TattsBet price assessors next week. The Roar’s post-Christmas form is
terrible and in the unlikely event Adelaide upsets Melbourne there is
likely to be little between the Roar and Reds in price this time next
week.
Wooden Spoon
Adelaide $1.90
North Queensland $3.25

Central Coast $8.00

TENNIS
Eleven times Grand Slam champion Serena Williams is now $1.58 to win the
Sydney Medibank International down from $1.90 earlier in the week after
comfortably progressing to the semi-finals in a straight sets win over
Vera Dushevina yesterday. Biggest bet at $1.90 is $8,000. In Australian
Open news Nikolay Davydenko’s rich vain of early 2010 form has seen his
Australian open price shift down from $21 down to $9, while Kim Clijsters
hard fought third set win over Justine Henin in Brisbane recently has
trimmed her Open price from $6 to $4.
TEST CRICKET
Not for the first time this summer, Australia enters today’s 3rd
Test in Hobart as winners for TattsBet. 60% of pre-game recorded so far
have been for Pakistan or the draw with 40% for Australia. As a result
Australia is now $1.75 out from an opening gambit of $1.67. While the
growing popularity of live betting is also resulting in a shift in the
proportion of betting activity from pre-event to in-event, particularly so
in the case of cricket, unlike many previous Summers, the Aussies have
been a winning proposition for TattsBet to date this time round.
CANADA ODDS ON TO BREAK THE CURSE!
Ice Hockey is the blue riband event of the Games and the Olympic
equivalent of Soccer’s World Cup. Unbelievably Canada has never won a gold
medal in any sport while hosting an Olympics, in either the Calgary Games
of 1988 or the Montreal Games of 1976, but TattsBet has installed Team
Canada $1.80 to break the curse and win the gold medal in Vancouver next

NRL PREMIERSHIP UPDATE
The TattsBet punter who placed $2,000 on last year’s Wooden Spooners at
$26 is hoping the 2010 Roosters do a Bulldogs this year and go from the
cellar dwellers to premiership contenders under new Coach Brian Smith
within the space of a season. In other NRL futures betting news, Justin
Hodges is a crucial component of the Broncos and his untimely pre-season
Achilles tendon injury has seen the Broncos ease $2 from $13 to $15 to
take the 2010 title. At $15 the Broncos are the highest price ever for a
premiership pre-season with UNiTAB.

AMERICAN FOOTBALL (POST SEASON - WILDCARD WEEKEND)
Its week 1 of NFL’s post-season better known as Wildcard weekend! The top
2 seeds in both the NFC and AFC have the luxury of the week off but in the
case of New Orleans Saints their late season 3 game losing fade out
suggests they may struggle to get past their NFL divisional game next
week. The Saints will host one of three NFC teams, depending on the
outcome of this weekend’s Wild Card games. Possible opponents for the
Saints include, NFC West champion Arizona, or either of the two NFC Wild
card teams Green Bay or Philadelphia. The Saints will host the lowest
remaining seeded team in the NFC. As a consequence of the Saints late
season capitulation TattsBet has reassessed the one time $3.75
Super Bowl favourites to $4.75 equal second favourites along with
the white hot San Diego Chargers winners of 11 straight. The Chargers down
from $11.00 less than a month ago have the recent number of the
reigning $4.00 Super Bowl favourites the Indianapolis Colts winning
3 of their last 4 encounters. The Dallas Cowboys courtesy of an
impressive late season winning surge have been the biggest price movers
shifting from $34.00 to $9.00 in the last month.

world no. 1 Tiger Woods will return to golf. While it’s highly unlikely
he’ll miss a major, TattsBet has moved to open a 2010 PGA Tour Money list
and 2010 Masters Market without Woods. In Tiger’s absence current world
no. 2 Phil Mickelson has been installed $5.50 favourite for Augusta 2010

AMERICAN FOOTBALL – NFL
Having secured their post-season
participation by way of 14 straight wins, the Indianapolis Colts 29-15
loss to the Jets last weekend, after resting a quartet of key players in
the 2nd half is a clear indication where their focus is at right now. For
the Colts a perfect season would have been a nice bonus but now it’s all
about being healthy for the run to the Super Bowl. Despite an impressive
NFL record regular season record of 23 consecutive wins the Colts were
booed from Lucas Oil Stadium by their fans after dropping their first game
this season in what surely must be a first for a team with such an
imposing record. This week the $3.75 TattsBet Super Bowl favourites travel
to Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo to tackle the woeful Bills in their
final regular season appearance. With a perfect season no longer
achievable will the Colts rest key players or will they go for regular
season win no. 15 with their best compliment of players before having a
week off in the divisional round of the post-season?
While the NFC playoff picture is pretty
much resolved with only positioning to be settled, the AFC picture is
still far from set so strap yourself in for a hectic final regular season
week of American Football.

2010 NRL TOP 8
TattsBet believe the Gold Coast Titans are
again shaping as a better chance of finishing Top 8 than winning the 2010
NRL premiership. The Titans are $15 to win next year’s premiership, $2
longer than the Broncos and Rabbitohs, yet shorter than both those teams
to finish Top 8 at the end of the regular home and away series. This year
the Titans were bundled out of the final series in straight sets and with
high profile off season recruitment pretty much limited to Greg Bird, key
players either approaching or over 30 the jury is out on whether the Gold
Coast can improve sufficiently on this year’s performance at the business
end of next year’s competition to win the holy grail.

NO MYSTERY!
TABs are awash with fascinating stories about small punters who win big
not necessarily by following the form and in some cases by ignoring it
altogether. UNiTAB offers a variety of mystery bets year round and last
Saturday one UNiTAB customer was lucky enough to scoop
$77,879.20 for his $9 bet (9
x $1 Mystery First4 bets) on race 8 the big jackpot First4 race at Eagle
Farm. Nice timing with Xmas just round the corner!
AMERICAN FOOTBALL
Betting interest on the NFL continues to grow with this season’s betting
activity more than 50% higher compared to the same number of games last
year. For the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints the pursuit of a
perfect season continues for another week. Will the Colts and Saints
aspire to finish
16-0 rather than trying to stay as healthy as possible for the playoffs?
After starting the season at $13, the Colts are now $3.75 favourites with
the Saints $4.00 down from a season high $26.00. The 2007 New England
Patriots would have gladly traded their perfect regular season for a
Championship Ring in light of their stunning loss to the New York Giants
in Super Bowl XLII.
CRICKET – 3RD TEST AUSTRALIA-WEST INDIES
One TattsBet punter is sweating on Ricky Ponting overcoming an elbow
injury and returning to the crease in the 1st innings of the 3rd
Test in Perth today to improve on his 23 runs after placing $4,800 on him
to score more than 45.5 runs at $1.90 in his first dig. In stark contrast
to the first two tests pre-test money for this test was running 4:1 in
favour of the WI.
SUPER 14
There’s less than two months to the start of the 2010 Super 14
Championship and TattsBet has a market up for the 2010 winner. The new
look Brumbies squad which contains thirteen players on ARU contracts up
from nine in 2009, is shaping as Australia’s best chance of winning next
year’s title with the embattled Queensland Reds again set to be anchored
to the bottom of the 2010 ladder for yet another season following the
defection of star playmaker Berrick Barnes to the Waratahs.

WORLD CUP
Tattsbet have posted up group and selected match markets for next year’s
World Cup following last week’s draw ceremony. Australia are the $7
outsiders to win Group D. Germany are narrowly in the red figures at
$1.85, while Serbia ($4) and Ghana ($5) are theoretically fighting it out
for second favourite. In match betting, the first bet we wrote was from a
retail client who put $50 on Australia upsetting the fancied Germany in
the opening match at $6.
CHAMPION’S LEAGUE SOCCER
Following last week’s $15,000 gamble on favourites Chelsea, another retail
client this week chimed in with $9,000 on second favourites Barcelona at
