FROM ESKANDER RACING

Eskander Racing News

STOP PRESS

The office of Michael Eskander has been hit with very sizeable amounts of money for the Guy Walter trained Republic Lass. The AJC Oaks winning filly has been sensationally backed early on, forcing bookmaker Michael Eskander to slash her price from 12/1 to 7/1 for the Caulfield Cup.

All reports on the filly suggest that she will only improve in her four year old season, which throws her right into Caulfield Cup calculations considering four year old mare's record in the race.

Michael Eskander stated that unlike the Melbourne Cup, punters only wanted to back the one horse, with every big double being coupled with her in the first leg.

The Melbourne Cup seems a little wider, with punters coupling various horses in both doubles and straight out betting. Plenty of money is still coming for the Dermott Weld trained Vinnie Roe, with many punters seeing the 9/1 on offer a very good bet if it decides to make the trip.

Other money in the Cup seems to be coming for the Cliff Brown trained Adelaide Cup winner, The A Train. Continuous specking sees his price firm from 66/1 into 50/1, with Michael warning it could well trim up even further if the money continues.

Magical Miss from the Bart Cummings stable has been another very popular horse, with many clients of Michael Eskander coupling it to win both Cups. The 2001 VRC Oaks winner would seem to have come back well from an injury enforced layoff that saw her miss the autumn carnival.

Cyclades is still a very popular horse in the Melbourne Cup, despite its quote being slashed from 100/1 a month ago into 33/1 at present. Prized Gem is the next best backed horse in the Cup.

The Cox Plate betting seems a little slow, with a solid stream of money coming for Lonhro at the 9/1, along with the much improved Defier at 12/1.
