England were in cruise control against Denmark as they marched on into the Quarter-Finals in style. The silky-skilled Samba boys are next on the agenda in Shizuoka on Friday.

The Danes were shell shocked in Niigata at the weekend as Beckham and Co. ran riot. England led as early as the fifth minute, Rio Ferdinand rising majestically at the far post to head back towards goal. Despite Thomas Sorensen’s fumblings between the posts, he couldn’t stop the ball rolling over the line. The Danish despair continued as strikes from the Liverpool frontmen, Michael Owen and Emile Heskey, gave England a three goal advantage at the interval. The second half can be written off as a non-starter, but what can’t be ignored is the fact that under the tutelage of Sven Goran Eriksson, the Three Lions are coming on leaps and bounds.

Before the nation gets carried away with visions of ‘Goldenballs’ holding the Jules Rimet trophy aloft, England must prepare for their toughest test in the Far East to date, a clash with the Luis Felipe Scolari’s Brazil. The yellow shirts have sizzled and set the tournament alight, scoring goals for fun. They may have lacked their usual  panache and power for spells in the Belgium match, but they ground out a 2-0 win and will come out all guns blazing as they search for a place in the Semis. The 3 R’s, Rivaldo, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho, look to pose the biggest threat to England. After a lean spell, plagued by niggling injuries, Ronaldo has hit back in impressive fashion, bagging goals in each of Brazil’s four games, five in total.
