BETTING TIGHT IN WIZARD CUP GRAND FINAL Punters are agreeing with the odds assessors at TABSportsbet with money for both sides in early betting on the Grand Final of the Wizard Home Loans Cup at Colonial Stadium on Saturday night. Port Adelaide have been installed as favourites at $1.70 on the strength of their four wins in this years pre-season competition and their fine record in Melbourne last season when their only loss in five games was to the Bombers in round two at Colonial. Richmond supporters can get $2.00 about the Tigers beating Port for the first time in four years although all defeats have been at Football Park in Adelaide. Both teams had good support in the early Wizard Cup betting with one wager of $3,000 on the Power at a quote of $7.50 (to collect $19,500) whilst another punter invested $5,000 after round 2 at $3.75 for a return of $18,750. One Tiger fan bet as soon as the pre-season market was released, wagering $2,000 at $12.00 for a nice collect of $24,000 with another bet one day later of $1,500 at a quote of $11.00 for a return of $16,500. Betting on the winner of the Michael Tuck medal will be available from Friday morning.
KANGAROOS EASE IN BETTING AS CAREY DEPARTS Wayne Carey's departure from the Kangaroos for the upcoming season has certainly had an affect on their odds at TABSportsbet, with the Roos easing from $23.00 out to $31.00 for the 2002 Premiership. Other related betting adjustments have been easing of their Final 8 price from $1.85 out to $2.00 and the shortening of their price for the Wooden Spoon from $21.00 in to $12.00 The Kangaroos had been well supported for the Flag early in the year with bets of $1,000 and $500 at a quote of $31.00, as well as $800 at $26.00, which saw their price come in to $23.00 over the last few weeks. Punters will have to make up their mind as to whether Carey's
departure is for the best or the worst and their reaction to the market
moves will be monitored over the next few days.
