NRL Kicks Off First
Posted 7:30 PM, March 9, 2004

As the much-anticipated start of the 2004 NRL season inches closer, Sports Acumen today announced their “First! Better! Best!” odds philosophy for the 2004 NRL season.

Sports Acumen head trader, Matt Fisk commented “We are committed to delivering the NRL odds first each week, with better odds than our competitors combined with the best service.”

“The new odds release date of Tuesday afternoon will allow punters to assess the markets early and the week and then if they believe there is an opportunity they can bet on it.”

As round one commences, reigning premiers Penrith host the first match at Penrith Stadium on Friday night. The Panthers enter the match as favourites against Newcastle as doubts surround the fitness of star Knights forward Ben Kennedy while Andrew Johns is a definite starter.

Other matches of note for the punters are the embattled Bulldogs taking on Parramatta and the Brisbane Broncos hosting the dangerous NZ Warriors. These three matches are expected to attract the big money in Round One.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Sports Acumen - 2004 Rugby League Betting

The 2004 NRL competition is being touted as the most evenly contested rugby league season ever. The usual suspects in Sydney Roosters, Penrith and NZ Warriors head the betting, but sides such as Melbourne, Canberra and even North Queensland are attracting significant betting interest. After Penrith rose from 100/1 outsiders at the start of the 2003 season to take out last year’s premiership, who can blame them?

Sydney Roosters are our top pick @ $4.00 and have been backed heavily. Others well supported have been Penrith ($6.00), NZ ($6.00) and the Bulldogs ($10.00). Obviously the punter who backed them to win $55,000 was not concerned with the current off-field turmoil engulfing the club.

Sports Acumen is offering a wide array of NRL betting to cater for the public’s interest. Listed below are the futures markets currently available:

Premiership Winner Select the winner of the competition

Minor Premier Select the team to top the ladder after the regular season
