World Cup 2002

The greatest football extravaganza on the planet is almost upon us. All eyes will be looking East on May 31st, when the World and European Champions, France, clash with Senegal in the opening World Cup match.

"The Group Of Death"..??

England's campaign kicks off on Sunday 2nd June. Sven's men have been handed a less then easy start, as they must face Argentina, Sweden and Nigeria in their opening group matches. The clash with Argentina should be a cracker and it has been stoked up even further following the infamous 'Duscher' tackle on Captain Marvel, David Beckham. England will be out for revenge following their exit from World Cup 1998 at the hands of Argentina. Sweden, who were unbeaten in qualifying with an impressive record of eight wins and two draws from ten starts, will go to the Finals in good heart and won't be pushovers. Pele once famously stated that an African nation would lift the Jules Rimet trophy before the curtain fell on the 20th Century. The Brazilian legend may have got his timing wrong, but the African nations can cause a shock or two and England cannot afford to let their concentration slip when they meet the Nigerians in Osaka.

Awesome Owen..??

After making his mark in his first World Cup, Michael Owen heads to the Far East as one of England's most feared strikers. The lethal Liverpool front man became an instant hit when he scored his amazing solo goal against Argentina in France, 4 years ago, Will he set the competition alight this time..??
