AFL WEEK 9 WRAP Round 9 of the AFL season was pretty much a line ball between punters and TABSportsbet with 5 of the 8 favourites winning, Port Adelaide started the ball rolling for favourite punters when they were heavily backed to beat the injury depleted Bombers, with the Power coming in from an opening price of $1.72 to a quote of $1.48 by game time. One punter who had $14,000 on Carlton at the line at a quote of $1.85 must have been at peace with the world as the Blues cruised to a 36 point lead late in the second quarter. At that stage Carlton’s lead, plus the 27 point start with the line bet, gave him a buffer of 63 points for his collect of nearly $26,000. The rest is history as the Lions engineered a 113 point turn around – and a loss of $14,000 for our unfortunate punter. Fremantle were easy in the betting against Melbourne at the MCG and as the Demons were backed in to $1.72 the Dockers edged out to $2.00 at which quote an astute punter invested $15,000 on Freo for a nice collect of $30,000. Although most of the money was for the Eagles against Richmond at Subiaco on Saturday night one Tiger fan had a crack at the Tiges when they eventually got out to $4.25 with a bet of $7,000 to win $22,750 however the Coasters were always in control. Collingwood were so heavily backed ($1.55 to $1.33) to beat StKilda that we were able to bet one of our bigger customers $30,000 at $3.00 the Saints and then another $10,000 at the same quote just before game time. The short quote about Adelaide to beat the Western Bulldogs didn’t deter some punters and the Crows came in from $1.12 to $1.08 including one bet of $20,000 at $1.09. However the $6.50 about the Bulldogs as the Adelaide money kept coming was too much for our big punter and he invested $20,000 on the Dogs to win $110,00 and got a great run for his money as they led at every change until fading out in the last quarter. Betting was quiet on the long-term events this week except for a good bet of $15,000 on Fremantle to make the Final 8 at $1.75 as well as $500 on them to take the Flag at $35.00 Collingwood were also supported for the Flag with a bet of $1,500 at a quote of $9.00. Not a lot of big betting on the NRL for round 11 although the biggest bet of the weekend got the cash when a bet of $14,000 on South Sydney at the line of +12.5 points ($1.85) was easily successful even though StGeorge beat the Rabbitohs. South Sydney lost 16 points to 18 but our punter won his $11,900 with 10 points to spare. Golf got plenty of publicity last week when Annika Sorenstam took on the men in the Colonial Classic in Fort Worth, Texas. Punters were falling over themselves to take the $301 Annika to win the tournament and by the time she teed off her quote had to be trimmed to $81.00.We also offered punters the chance to back her to make or miss the cut and were absolutely staggered at the amount of money invested on this bet type with the hold reaching $150,000 when betting closed on Friday night. For the record Kenny Perry won the event with a score of 19 under par and the punter who had $200 each-way on him at $51.00 to win $12,500 probably couldn’t have cared less about Annika. Punters are certainly embracing our fixed return racing product and this was again confirmed with some good betting over the weekend.
