Better odds attracting big punts
Sports Acumen’s competitive odds on its AFL and NRL betting markets has led to some large wagers being placed over the last week, with one punter already winning big over the weekend.
A $15, 000 three-way multi bet bagged the lucky punter a $61, 000 payout, after solid wins to St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs, and a narrow one-point victory to the Swans.
In the NRL, the Sydney Roosters good mid season form has attracted plenty of interest, with one punter placing a $50, 000 bet on them to win the 2004 premiership.
With the odds at $2.90 this could produce a $95, 000 pay day.
Head trader Matt Fisk believes interest in the Roosters is not surprising given their good form over the last couple of seasons.
“We’re at that stage of the season where some punters feel that the Roosters are guaranteed of at least making the grand final, which is why we are attracting bets like this,” he said.
With the State of Origin just over a week away betting interest should start to increase shortly, although turmoil in the NSW camp has made some punters nervous.
Fisk believes that NSW should still start favourites despite the fallout of the mobile phone scandal.
“With Darren Lockyer out NSW has to be favourites, we expect more betting on this later in the week after the inner turmoil at NSW dies down,” he said.
Sports Acumen currently has NSW paying $1.58 for the win, with Queensland good value at $2.40.
