Racing & Sports Betting Forum Examining the future direction of the Australian wagering industry 14th December 2004. The Novotel Century, Sydney
Federal government legislation outlaws online gaming, but not wagering. The federal government has recently announced that it will not outlaw online betting exchanges in Australia but it will be responsibility of the states to determine whether to grant licences for betting exchanges. Therefore for a betting exchange to promote its services in Australia, it must receive a licence from the state or territory. With the huge implications that this legislation has for the sports betting industry, IBC Conferences Australia, are pleased to announce the Racing and Sports Betting Forum, to be held at the Novotel Century, Sydney on the 14th December 2004. The event will examine the future direction of the Australian wagering industry with a unique line up of speakers. Michael Piggott, Chief Executive – Wagering at Tabcorp Holdings will be the keynote speaker addressing delegates on the future of the Australian wagering market. The Australian Racing Board’s perspective will be given by their CEO, Andrew Harding. Three panel discussions will take place during the day. The first panel discussion, including Brian Paddock, Deputy Chairman, Australian Harness Racing Council; Robert Nason, CEO, Racing Victoria and Peter V'Landys, CEO, Racing NSW will invoke lively debate on the likely outcomes of licenced betting exchanges. A further roundtable discussion will take place in the afternoon, looking at the IP & online wagering issues facing sporting codes and betting agencies.
