Weekend Wrap

More bleats than a Greek Shepherd
Collingwood's not a suburb any more it's a concept says Eddie. On Sunday
it
had reverted to type. A bleating flock of players, officials, coaches
and
supporters. Let's face it they've had plenty of practise, having won 1
flag
following 1958 and getting the Colliwobbles on eight occasions since
then to
be beaten Grand Finalists. Rocca reckons his kick went through the
goals.
Stick to brain surgery Anthony. Paul Licuria dobs in Jason Akermanis for
a
cut in his head at the urging of his coach. After a game in which there
were
untold number of incidents with Collingwood players unfairly interfering
with their Brisbane opponents off the ball. The visually impaired trio
in
white did their part for the Wobblers and still the Army and its leaders
bleat. There's no silk purse to be made from a sow's ear. The bleating
over
the Cloke incident showed that. Back to type. After an effort which
would do
any club proud, undoubtedly helped by the weather, rather than
acknowledge
the champions they bleat. They weren't bleating from their pocket
though.
Nary a supporter came forward throughout the year to put their hard
earned
on the Pies. Come game day we figure there was a bit of laying off going
down when we accepted 10k at 4.60, 20k at 4.30 and 20k at 4.35. We did
get
snagged courtesy of the margin though. $35,000 at Collingwood with the
29=
start and then as the first leg of 35,000 at $3.80 on Collingwood with
the
start and The Roosters to win on Sunday.
Another client has had a myopic yet profitable year. What a line up of
bets.
All on Brisbane. 7000 @ 3.25, 5000 @2.90, 5000 @2.50, 20,000 @2.25,10000
@
2.15, 5000 @ 2.00, 4000 @ 2.00, 5000 @ 1.90, 10000 @ 1.85, 30000 @ 1.45
and
12000 @ 1.42. Hungo Dungo that's a total of 113,000. And his Doctor told
him
he should broaden his interests. We reckon he should change his doctor
and
watch out for repetitive strain injury, though suppose he could afford a
physio at season's end.
Half a genius got us at the golf too. Ryder Cup? Rider Bookie! In the
four
ball he matches up teams of Mickleson/Toms, Sergio Garcia and Lee
Westwood,
Colin Montgomerie and Bernhard Langer with $3,000 @ $8.18 and up they
jump.
Backing up in the foursomes its Mickleson/Toms, Westwood/Garcia,
Montgomerie/Langer and Woods/Love with another $3,000, this time at the
cumulative $10.20 and whilst we're at the nineteenth steadying the
nerves
the combo gets up for a return of $27, 606. Don't know if he's got a web
site but suspicion at this stage that a crystal ball has prominence next
to
the telly and the phone.
The Warriors were outsiders on Sunday but perhaps courtesy of the smart
move
to distribute 15,000 tickets to New Zealand passports on Friday,
courtesy of
club sponsors Vodafone and owner Eric Watson, they got across the line
in a
strong showing against the fancied Sharks. Couple of punters came for
them,
one investing 30,000 at the 2.25 and followed in by another 30,000 at
2.20.
The Grand Final's looking murky for us. Roosters do us a stack and the
Warriors do us a stack. The again its only Monday and with the AFL out
of
the way, there should be some action week long.
Racing was the feel good story. All the good races were in Sydney but
the
classic was undoubtedly the clash between Sunline, Defier, Lohnro and
Shogun
Lodge, with Gai's pair thrown in the George Main Stakes. We hardly laid
the
winner but did invest $250.00 for the Doxa foundation on Defier at Best
Fluc
for a nice return for the kid's foundation and that tipster of renown
Michael Sullivan declared it his best bet of the day on our site. Chris
Munce made sure Lohnro couldn't get out which was a bit for the
sideboard
with a late 15,000 and another 10,000 coming for the Hawkes trained
colt.
Munce was later severely reprimanded but not by anyone here and
certainly no
one at Doxa.
As the footy winds down , the punt (races) winds up. And wasn't that a
beautiful piece of racing romance in the Australian on the weekend,
broke a
few hearts round here. The loveliest smile in racing (sorry Gai, sorry
Jack
Denham) Sheila Laxon, Queen of the Cups last year and John Symons,
trainer
of Bel Esprit, a romantic involvement. Sheila was quoted as saying that
watching Symons last year, when Ethereal was stabled at Macedon Lodge,
she
thought he had a good eye for a horse. Good eye for more than that
Sheila!
Good luck and hope the fluctuations are minor, but that you get the best
of
them.
The old blokes reckon no one ever committed suicide with an untried two
year
old in the stable. Spring carnival's about on a par we reckon. They're
goin'
off everywhere at the moment and if you're aim is getting on, you've
come to
the right place.
