DAILY ANALYSIS .. with OnThePunt's Tennis expert in Melbourne
Updated 5:15 PM AEDST, Tuesday 15 January
WEDNESDAY 16th - 2ND ROUND MATCHES (BOTTOM HALF DRAW)

SUMMARY:
2 from 4 plays (avg. price 2.62), +0.25 units (+28.25 week)

PLAYS:

Albert Portas 2.60 ESP (18) vs. Dominik Hrbaty 1.60 SVK
- H-H 2-2. Portas disposed of hometown favourite Ilie in the 1st round but has never been past the 2nd round here. Coming off a tough five-setter against Burgsmuller, Hrbaty has not been in great form, so the value does look to lie with the Spaniard.
5 units Portas at 2.60 (Sportodds)
-5

Jerome Golmard 2.25 FRA vs. Goran Ivanisevic 1.65 CRO (10)
- Very tough match-up. Goran did not overly impress with his four set win over Damm, while Golmard did very well to get past Arthurs in straight sets. Shoulder injury still a concern for the big-serving Croatian.
5 units Golmard at 2.25 (William Hill/Paddy's)
+6.25

Thomas Enqvist 1.40 SWE (24) vs. Jonas Bjorkman 3.00 SWE
- One might assume the veteran might find this one tough, but he does lead the H-H 2-1 (albeit they have not met since '97) and has been playing very well early this year with a win over Safin in Auckland last week. Enqvist took a while to get going in his first match and does look to be returning to form, but this one will be a lot closer than many think.
2 units Bjorkman at 3.00 (William Hill)
+4

MULTI-BET:

Sebastian Grosjean 1.35 FRA (5) vs. Francisco Clavet 3.75 ESP
- H-H 2-0. The Frenchman is still my tip to win the title here. He looks to be playing into some form and will appreciate the run from his tight four set win over the dangerous Balcells. The Veteran Spaniard did have a very comfortable 1st round win against the lowly ranked Martin Lee, but this will be a lot tougher.

Andrea Gaudenzi 4.50 ITA vs. Jiri Novak 1.17 CZE (26)
- The Italian got past Fromberg in the 1st round but will find Novak a lot harder. The Czech has been in brilliant form as highlighted in a 1st round spanking of Nicolas Kiefer. He'll take this one comfortably.

James Blake 1.53 USA vs. Stefan Koubek 2.50 AUT
- As predicted, James Blake had a super upset win over Corretja in the first round and looks likely to progress further here in Melbourne. Koubek was pushed to 8-6 in the fifth set to French qualifier Saulnier in the first round and looks to be outclassed here.

Ramon Delgado 4.50 PAR vs. Guillermo Canas 1.22 ARG (12)
- H-H 1-3. Very hard to bet against Canas after his stunning win over the in-form Thai in the 1st round. Ramon Dalgado struggled to get past Montanes early on is his match and looks to be outclassed here.

Fernando Vicente 4.50 ESP vs. Younes El Aynaoui 1.25 MAR (21)
- H-H 0-2. The Spaniard showed courage to get past Carlsen 10-8 in the 5th after being down two sets to love, but the Moroccan looked very sharp against Vanek and won't have any worries here.

5 units at 3.69 (Bet365) -5

OTHER MATCHES - SELECTIONS IN BOLD (Best early prices):

Kristian Pless 2.75 DEN vs. Hicham Arazi 1.40 MAR (22)
- I'm going to leave this one alone. Arazi has had blisters on his left hand in the past few weeks and Pless was impressive in his four-set win over Mirnyi.

Tommy Robredo 1.25 ESP (32) vs. Fernando Gonzalez 4.50 CHI
- The young Spaniard did well to get past Russell in the 1st round after dropping the 1st set while Gonzalez carried his qualifying form through to the main draw with his win over Sargisan. Won't be touching Robredo at this price however.

Alex Kim 8.00 USA vs. Yevgeny Kafelnikov 1.10 RUS (4)
- Qualifier Kim has been playing some great tennis, but this will be a big ask.

Tim Henman 1.15 GBR (6) vs. Vladimir Voltchkov 5.50 BLR
- The Brit has run into some nice form early this year and will have far too much for Voltchkov.

Mark Philippoussis 1.67 AUS vs. Greg Rusedski 2.25 GBR (28)
- The Scud produced an awesome serving display on Monday night when disposing of Blanco while the Brit did have a few lapses of concentration is his win over Draper. Hard to bet against the 'Pou', but Rusedski is riding high on confidence after his win in Auckland. Just too tough to pick.

Thomas Johansson 1.22 SWE (16) vs. Markus Hipfl 4.00 AUT
- The Swede hasn't been right on top of his game recently but should have far too much for the Austrian.

Andreas Vinciguerra 2.75 SWE (31) vs. Taylor Dent 1.53 USA
- The son of Phil was ultra impressive in his first round demolition of Tabara. Vinciguerra has not quite recaptured his form of late 2001 and despite a comfortable win over F Luzzi in the 1st round, will be overpowered in this one.

Adrian Voinea 3.75 ROM vs. Julien Boutter 1.29 FRA
- As predicted, it was Kuerten's for the number 2 seed as the Frenchman upset 'Guga' on Monday. He will have to be careful of a letdown in this one, but he's playing great tennis at the moment and should have enough to advance.
